Event Details

Steinway Artist and Island resident James Longford performs a thought-provoking programme of music for piano inspired by aspects of daily life in current times.

“The rhythms of daily life were disrupted for everyone last year and, as a musician, my life is still hugely affected. As we slowly return to some sort of normality I wanted to share a programme exploring aspects of daily life over the last year or so – repetition, self-reflection, (small) journeys, grief, inactivity, box sets, new discoveries, gratitude – through music old and new, challenging and familiar, from the Renaissance to Minimalism.”

“exquisitely detailed playing” – Birmingham Post

James Longford is a pianist, organist and vocal coach based here on the Island. He trained at the Royal College of Music (where he won the Tagore Gold Medal), at St. Martin-in-the-Fields and at the Banff Center for the Arts in Canada. He is a laureate of several major competitions and was selected as a Steinway Artist in 2014.

A wide-ranging career as soloist, chamber musician and collaborative pianist has led to performances in Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall, South Bank Centre, Barbican, St David’s Hall Cardiff and Conway Hall, and for the BBC. His two acclaimed albums with the Galos Piano Trio are available on all streaming platforms.
