Event Details

Place of Safety is the latest work from artist Kathy Williams as she continues to research ideas of Painting as a Democratic Act ( PaDA) .

She seeks to push the boundaries of how we think of using paint as a relevant, expressive medium as well as re thinking how the public has access to, engages with and understandings contemporary artwork that uses paint. Both a highly trained artist as well as qualified teacher, Kathy realises that a good way to understand anything is through experience, so she gives opportunities to others to take part in the creation or duration of her temporary works.
The planning stages of this artwork includes work created from workshops held in various venues in Ventnor. You can see some of this work in posters around in various windows in the town center.

Kathy has been blessed with funding from the lottery fund through Arts Council England to enable her to take the first steps into the realisation of assembling work outside, paint as public art, and informed by local communities.

During Place of Safety visitors will be encouraged to take photographs of any aspect of what they see. They can create compositions within the frame of their cameras. Then we ask if people could upload their images onto @thepaintingisee on Instagram, or just email the artist directly through her website.
When the Ventnor Fringe finishes and the work is taken down, what will remain are the images from the public, as document.

Open every day of the fringe 10.30am – 8pm
