Not Just William was commissioned as part of Shakespeare’s 450th Birthday celebrations in 2014 by the Magic Alley Theatre, “the home of storytelling in Stratford -upon Avon”. Originally performed as a promenade performance on Henley Street it is now being adapted for the stage for Shakespeare 400 celebrations.
23rd April 1577. Times are hard for the Shakespeare family as a reluctant young William faces up to leaving school early to help in the glove workshop. Bereft of his books and his grand hopes for the future, William is not having the happiest of birthdays until a simple errand leads him on an enchanted journey through a haunted forest and a magical graveyard which opens his eyes to a world of stories which will remain with him for the rest of his life.
A fun day-in-the-life dramatisation of Shakespeare’s formative years bringing to life the source tales for some of his most famous plays.
Not Just William is a great introduction to the man, his times and some of his major works including Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice and King Lear.
