The Bevvy Sisters are pure vocal magic, distilled to the power of three and cut with a dash of potent Scottish spirit. Mixing equal measures of sweetness and sass, grit and glamour, heartbreak and hilarity their radiantly triple layered voices and artfully wide-ranging repertoire of vintage, contemporary and original songs stand out from the crowd in both style and substance.
Their name may be misleading (they are neither sisters nor are they all female) but it does appropriately draw to mind connotations of The Beverley Sisters or The Andrews Sisters whose vocal skills they certainly share. But there is something more interesting going on here, musically and lyrically.
There’s a wider range of influences, with lyrics that are darker and more substantial but in concert this is balanced with plenty of mischievous banter. The band’s dynamics work perfectly together and they clearly enjoy themselves just as much on the stage as the always engrossed and entertained audiences they perform for do.
Over the past 12 years The Bevvy Sisters have become a recognised house for great singers and songwriters. The much-loved harmony soul singers have built a devoted and ever- growing fan base in their home in Scotland and much further afield. Nodding to their vast array of influences they put original songs, great singing and attitude at the forefront of what they do. Moving on from their roots in folk, Americana and cabaret their 2018 album release “This Moment” has retained the unmistakable trademark Bevvy sound and been hugely praised both for its soul/blues/jazz/R&B infused flavour and the groups uncanny musical empathy.
Musically thrilling and hugely entertaining you can bet your bottom dollar that an evening in the company of Heather Macleod, Gina Rae, Louise Murphy and David Donnelly at Ventnor Fringe will be both uplifting and a huge giggle and bring a whole new meaning to the concept of “a good night out”!
